Prosthodontics (also known as dental prosthetics or prosthetic dentistry) is the area of dentistry that focuses on dental prostheses. This branch of dentistry works with the design, manufacture, and fitting of artificial replacements for teeth and other parts of the mouth. The three main services of Prosthodontics is dental implants, cosmetic dental veneers, and treatment of gum disease.

The term “Prostho” means replacement and “dontist” means dealing with teeth. A prosthodontist is different than other dentists because they are specialists in restoring and replacing teeth. This can range from a single tooth, to all teeth and gums in the mouth. Many other dentists can do some of these treatments, but prosthodontics are the specialists that are dedicated to this type or dental care.

Rigorous training and experience give prosthodontists a special understanding of the dynamics of a smile and the preservation of a healthy mouth.
